Jarrod Saltalamacchia is starting to show signs of life with the bat for the Boston Red Sox

26-year old switch-hitting catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia has been turning up the power lately for the Boston Red Sox. In his last 9 games, Saltalamacchia is 8 for 31 (.258 avg) with 8 runs scored, 4 homers and 7 RBIs. Saltalamacchia has now played in 35 games for the Red Sox so far this year and he is 24 for 110 (.218 avg, .659 OPS) with 12 runs scored, 4 homers and 15 RBIs. The Red Sox might not need to trade for a catcher after all, as Salty is showing some life with the bat as of late.

The Red Sox have placed 25-year old lefty reliever Franklin Morales on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained left forearm. He didn’t last too long with the Red Sox before getting hurt. He has pitched in 2 games (0 starts) for the Red Sox so far and he is 0-0 with a 6.00 ERA and a 2.00 WHIP. He has now pitched in 16 games (0 starts) overall for the Rockies & Red Sox and he is 0-1 with a 4.24 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. The Red Sox hope he gets healthy soon as they love his power arm from the left side.

The Red Sox have placed 32-year old righty swinging outfielder Darnell McDonald on the 15-day disabled list due to a left quad strain. McDonald has played in 19 games for the Red Sox so far this year and he is 3 for 21 (.143 avg, .503 OPS) with 2 runs scored, 1 homer, 1 RBI and 1 stolen base. The Red Sox have called up 25-year old lefty swinging outfielder Josh Reddick to replace McDonald on the active roster. Reddick has played in 44 games in AAA-ball so far this year and he is 41 for 165 (.248 avg, .871 OPS) with 33 runs scored, 12 homers, 29 RBIs and 4 stolen bases. He has not played too well with the Red Sox so far in his major league career. Reddick has played in 56 games in parts of two years with the Red Sox and he is 22 for 121 (.182 avg, .539 OPS) with 10 runs scored, 3 homers, 9 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He has been a hacker so far in the majors, whiffing 32 times while only walking 3 times.

Dick Radatz was a solid reliever for the Boston Red Sox

Righty reliever Dick Radatz was a solid reliever in his five years with the Boston Red Sox. He pitched in 286 games (0 starts) in his five years with the Red Sox and he was 49-34 with 104 saves, a 2.65 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP. He gave up 420 hits in 557 1/3 innings with the Red Sox while whiffing 627 batters as he was pretty nasty with the BoSox. He was at his best in 1964 when he led the majors in saves. He pitched in 79 games (0 starts) for the Red Sox in 1964 and he was 16-9 with 29 saves, a 2.29 ERA and a 1.03 WHIP. Radatz only gave up 103 hits in 157 innings in 1964 for the Red Sox while whiffing 181 batters. You don’t see relievers like Radatz in the majors anymore as he almost averaged 2 innings per appearance in 1964, when he led the Major Leagues in saves.

Tom Seaver finished his major league career with the Boston Red Sox

Righty starting pitcher Tom Seaver finished up his Hall of Fame career with the Boston Red Sox in 1986. Seaver pitched in 16 games (all starts) for the Red Sox in 1986 and he was 5-7 with a 3.80 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP. It was the last year of his major league career which resulted in Seaver getting elected into Baseball’s Hall of Fame in 1992. Seaver finished his career with 311 wins in the major leagues which ranks him 18th in Major League history.
