The Boston Red Sox trade Jonathan Van Every to the Pirates

The Red Sox have traded 30-year old lefty swinging outfielder Jonathan Van Every to the Pirates for 22-year old righty swinging catcher Josue Peley. Van Every played in 21 games for the Red Sox this year and he was 4 of 19 (.211 avg, .707 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 1 RBI. He played in 39 games in his three years with the Red Sox in which he was 12 of 47 (.255 avg, .774 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 2 homers and 9 RBIs. Peley has played in 19 games in A-ball this year and he is 12 of 67 (.179 avg, .461 OPS) with 5 runs scored and 6 RBIs. Peley has now played in 150 games in his minor league career and he is 105 of 521 (.202 avg, .509 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 1 homer, 56 RBIs and 6 stolen bases. The only positive about this trade is that the Red Sox got something for Van Every instead of watching him leave as a free agent.

Adrian Beltre is smoking the ball for the Boston Red Sox

31-year old righty swinging 3B Adrian Beltre is on fire for the Boston Red Sox with the bat in his hands. He has played in 48 games for the Red Sox this year and he is 63 of 184 (.342 avg, .883 OPS) with 20 runs scored, 5 homers and 34 RBIs. Beltre has only walked 9 times so I think his average will start to come down soon but that’s nitpicking. He leads the Red Sox in both hits (63) and RBIs (34) right now. Beltre has been everything the Red Sox have hoped for and much more and they hope he can keep up the good work.

The Boston Red Sox put Jacoby Ellsbury right back on the D.L.

Blogged under General, Front Page, Injuries, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Friday 28 May 2010 at 8:07 pm

The Red Sox have placed starting LF Jacoby Ellsbury back on the D.L. due to rib cage pain. He has played in only 9 games for the Red Sox this year and he is 11 of 44 (.250 avg, .608 OPS) with 7 runs scored, 3 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. The Red Sox have called up 34-year old righty reliever Scott Atchison to replace Ellsbury on the roster. Atchison has pitched in 7 games (0 starts) for the Red Sox this year and he is 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. This really hurts the Red Sox as Ellsbury is just not replaceable at the top of the BoSox batting order.

The Boston Red Sox DFA Darnell McDonald

Blogged under General, Front Page, Bloglockers, Arrivals & Departures by chinmusic on Monday 24 May 2010 at 10:53 pm

The Red Sox have designated 31-year old righty swinging outfielder Darnell McDonald for assignment to essentially make room on the active roster for Mike Cameron who will be activated on Tuesday. McDonald played in 31 games for the Red Sox this season and he was 25 of 95 (.263 avg, .720 OPS) with 9 runs scored, 3 homers, 11 RBIs and 2 stolen bases. McDonald did a decent job for the Red Sox and he said he will accept a minor league assignment if he clears waivers which is not a given.

UPDATE: The Red Sox have DFA’d Scott Atchison instead of McDonald because Jacoby Ellsbury’s ribs are still bothering him. Atchison pitched in 7 games (0 starts) for the Red Sox this year and he was 0-1 with a 6.10 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP. I would think that he would accept a minor league system if he clears waivers. 37-year old righty swinging Mike Cameron has been activated off the D.L. He has played in 11 games for the Red Sox so far this season and he is 7 of 30 (.233 avg, .694 OPS) with 2 runs scored.

The Boston Red Sox need to move Mike Lowell

Blogged under Trade Rumors, General, If I Were the G.M., Front Page, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 24 May 2010 at 12:23 pm

I think the Red Sox need to move Mike Lowell as his constant moping and complaining isn’t helping anyone right now. The Red Sox could use some relief help and the Chicago White Sox could use another bat. I’m thinking that the Red Sox could probably trade Mike Lowell and cash to the White Sox for righty reliever Scott Linebrink. That would be a move that would help both teams so it’s a trade that wouldn’t probably happen. With David Ortiz hitting again the Red Sox need to move Mike Lowell and the sooner the better.
