The Red Sox have placed veteran righty reliever Mike Timlin on the 15-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis. Timlin has pitched in 24 games (0 starts) for the Red Sox this season and he is 3-3 with 1 save, a 7.06 ERA and a 1.85 WHIP. Timlin could probably use a rest as he has pitched pretty awful this season and he could be nearing the end of the line.

The Boston Red Sox might be warming up to replacing Julio Lugo at shortstop

The Boston Red Sox are getting irritated with starting shortstop Julio Lugo. With that in mind the Indians have been wanting to move Jhonny Peralta for some time now. So maybe the Indians could trade Peralta along with outfielder David Dellucci to the Red Sox for shortstop Jed Lowrie, outfielder Brandon Moss and relief pitcher Craig Hansen. The 23-year old switch hitting Jed Lowrie has been compared to Dustin Pedroia which would be fine with the Indians. He would take over as the starting SS from day #1 if this trade went down. Lowrie has played in 17 games for the Red Sox this season and he is 13 for 42 (.310 avg, .816 OPS) with 6 runs scored, 1 homer and 7 RBIs. He has a nice upside. 25-year old lefty swinging outfielder Brandon Moss would get a chance to battle for at bats in the Tribe’s crowded outfield. He has played in 16 games for the Red Sox this season and he is 10 for 39 (.256 avg, .788 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 2 homers and 5 RBIs. 25-year old righty reliever Craig Hansen appears to have been overrated by the Boston press but the Indians could use another arm in the bullpen. Hansen has pitched in 18 games (0 starts) for the Red Sox this season and he is 1-2 with 1 save, a 5.79 ERA and a 1.55 WHIP. This is a trade that would make the Red Sox better right now and maybe the Indians down the road. Jhonny Peralta has big time power for a shortstop. He has played in 66 games for the Indians this season and he is 58 for 255 (.227 avg, .685 OPS) with 40 runs scored, 11 homers and 26 RBIs. David Dellucci has played in 60 games for the Indians this season and he is 39 for 173 (.225 avg, .707 OPS) with 23 runs scored, 7 homers and 24 RBIs.

Curt Schilling’s going under the knife for the Boston Red Sox

Curt Schilling is going to have surgery on his right shoulder on Monday and it will cost him the rest of the season and might end his major league career. Schilling has’t pitched for the Red Sox this year and he likely won’t ever get the chance to again. Schilling has pitched in 119 games (98 starts) in his four year career with the Red Sox and he is 53-29 with 9 saves, a 3.95 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP. Schilling will probably be a Hall of Famer as he has really won some big games in his career. He has pitched in 569 games (436 starts) in his major league career and he is 216-146 with 22 saves, a 3.46 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP.

The Red Sox have placed righty starting pitcher Bartolo Colon on the 15-day disabled list with stiffness in his lower back. Colon has pitched in 6 games (all starts) for the Red Sox this season and he is 4-2 with a 4.09 ERA and a 1.39 WHIP. Daisuke Matsuzaka will replace Colon in the rotation this weekend. He has started 11 games this season for the Red Sox and he is 8-0 with a 2.53 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP.

J.D. Drew is stepping up big time for the Boston Red Sox

J.D. Drew is really stepping up for the Red Sox this season. The Red Sox were wondering if someone would step up and pick up the slack with David Ortiz out of action and it has been J.D. Drew. Drew has played in 55 games this season and he is 58 for 181 (.320 avg, .968 OPS) with 44 runs scored, 9 homers and 35 RBIs. The Red Sox just hope that Drew can stay healthy which has been a problem in his major league career. In nine full seasons in Drew’s career he has averaged only 120.6 games per season finishing with over 140 games played only three times.
