The Boston Red Sox designate Royce Clayton for assignment

This comes as no surprise as Clayton didn’t play much for the Red Sox. He played in 8 games for the Red Sox and he was 0 for 6 with 1 run scored. His biggest claim to fame as a Red Sox player is that he was miked for sound in the post-season…..other than that he did nada for the Sox and he won’t be missed at all.

Mike Lowell is the quiet assassin of the Red Sox as he was their best player all season long so it’s fitting that he would win the MVP of the World Series. A few other Red Sox players deserved consideration for fine play but they got this one right. Lowell was 6 for 15 (.400 avg) with 6 runs scored, 3 doubles, a homer, 4 RBIs and a stolen base. The Red Sox need to re-sign Lowell who is now a free agent.

The Red Sox won the World Series last night but they had to work for it. John Lester was the winning pitcher for the Red Sox and he was outstanding. He worked the first 5.2 innings and he allowed 3 hits, 0 earned runs, walked 3 batters and whiffed 3 batters. Mike Timlin was incredible in relief as he pitched to two batters and he whiffed both of them. Hideki Okajima almost blew this game for the Red Sox as he worked 1/3 of an inning and he allowed 2 hits and 2 earned runs. Jonathan Papelbon finished up the game earning a save. He pitched 1.2 innings and he allowed nothing while whiffing a batter.

Jacoby Ellsbury was outstanding again as the leadoff hitter for the Red Sox as he was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Mike Lowell really was pounding the baseball last night as he was 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored, a double, a homer and a RBI. Jason Varitek was also solid last night as he was 2 for 4 with a RBI. But the biggest blow of the night proved to be Bobby Kielty’s pinch hit homer in the 8th inning off Brian Fuentes.

The Red Sox won the World Series by pounding the Rockies 29-10 in this series.

The Boston Red Sox were running up to the plate on Saturday Night against the Rockies. It all started at the top of the lineup where rookie Jacoby Ellsbury was 4 for 5 with 2 runs scored, 3 doubles and 2 RBIs. Dustin Pedroia continued swinging a hot stick as he was 3 for 5 with 1 run scored, a double and 2 RBIs. Mike Lowell has another outstanding game as he was 2 for 5 with 2 runs scored, 2 RBIs and a stolen base. Julio Lugo and Daisuke Matsuzaka provided big sticks at the bottom of the batting order. Lugo was 1 for 3 with 2 runs scored, 2 walks and a double. Dice-K Matsuzaka was 1 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Dice-K also was the winning pitcher as he worked the first 5.1 innings and he allowed 3 hits, 2 earned runs, walked 3 batters and whiffed 5. The middle relief was awful for the Red Sox as Javier Lopez, Mike Timlin and Hideki Okajima combined to work 1.2 innings and they allowed 6 hits, 3 earned runs, walked 2 batters and whiffed 1. Jonathan Papelbon finished off the game with a save as he worked the last 1.1 innings and allowed only 1 hit and 0 runs. This win put the Red Sox up 3-0 in the series.

The pitching was the reason for the victory in Game #2 of the World Series. Curt Schilling worked the first 5.1 innings of the game and he was the winning pitcher as he only allowed 4 hits, 1 earned run, walked 2 batters and whiffed 4. Hideki Okajima followed with 2.1 hitless innings in which he whiffed 4 batters. Jonathan Papelbon earned the save by working the last 1.1 innings of this game and allowing only 1 hit while whiffing 2. The offense (what little there was) was led by J.D. Drew who was 2 for 2 and Mike Lowell who was 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI. The Red Sox are now up 2 games to none over the Rockies.
