The Red Sox have placed Curt Schilling on the 15-day disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis.  Schilling has started 15 games this season for the Red Sox and he’s 6-4 with a 4.20 ERA and a 1.36 WHIP.  He has pitched 94.1 innings this season and he has allowed 109 hits, walked 17 and whiffed 71.  The Red Sox have recalled lefty Kason Gabbard to replace Schilling on the roster and in the rotation.  Gabbard started one game earlier this season for the Red Sox and he won the game by pitching 5 innings and allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs, 1 walk and whiffing 7 batters.  Schilling will likely be ready to go when he’s elgible to come off of the DL.

John Lester is pitching good in the minors for the Boston Red Sox

23 year old lefty John Lester is close to being ready to rejoin the Boston Red Sox.  He has started 11 games in A+AAA ball so far this season and he’s 1-3 with a 2.10 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP.  He has thrown 51.1 innings in the minors and he’s allowed only 42 hits while walking 14 batters and whiffing 40.  Lester’s fastball has been clocked repeatedly in the 95 mph range and he’s throwing a lot of strikes which wasn’t the case very often for the Red Sox last season.

Julian Tavarez has been pitching well lately for the Boston Red Sox

Julian Tavarez has been pitching like a man who’s job is on the line and that’s a good thing for him….because it is.  With John Lester almost ready to rejoin the Red Sox, Tavarez needs to continue to pitch well to keep him in the minors.  Over his last 5 starts, Tavarez is 2-0 with a 4.20 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP.  He has thrown 30 innings in those games and he has allowed 30 hits, walked 10 batters and whiffed 19.

The Boston Red Sox release J.C. Romero

The Red Sox have decided that they didn’t need three lefty relievers in their bullpen so they have released J.C. Romero.  Romero’s big problem was his control and that’s what has cost him his job with the Red Sox.  Romero has pitched in 23 games this season for the Red Sox and he was 1-0 with 1 save, a 3.15 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP.  He has thrown 20 innings and he’s allowed 24 hits, walked 15 batters and whiffed 11.  The Red Sox will not miss Romero one bit as Javier Lopez and Hideki Okajima should be able to negate opposing lefty hitters.

The Boston Red Sox place Brendan Donnelly on the DL

Blogged under Front Page, Injuries, Bloglockers by chinmusic on Monday 18 June 2007 at 10:34 am

The Red Sox have placed Brendan Donnelly on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right forearm.  Donnelly has pitched pretty well for the Red Sox so far this season.  In 27 games Donnelly is 2-1 with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP.  He has thrown 20.2 innings so far this season and he has only allowed 19 hits and walked 5 batters.  Donnelly has also whiffed 15 batters which shows that he’s maintained his arm strength.  The Red Sox have recalled Manny Delcarmen to replace Donnelly in the bullpen.  Delcarmen was 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP in 20 games in AAA ball so far this season.  In 29.1 innings Delcarmen has allowed 28 hits, walked 14 batters and whiffed 37.  Delcarmen should do a good job for the Red Sox until Donnelly is ready to return.
